Why we ask

Most students meet history through a textbook. We think they should meet it in their hands — a banknote printed in 1862, a letter signed by someone who shaped the country, a photograph nobody in the room has seen before. Since September 2025 The Historical Standard has been building a teaching collection and a program that carries it into classrooms across northern New Jersey.

Free for schools means funded by people like you. Donations cover preparing artifacts for the classroom, getting them there safely, and publishing the lesson plans, guides and videos that teachers keep using long after we leave.

What your gift funds
  1. 01

    Classroom sessions

Hands-on lessons taught with authentic artifacts, brought to the school at no cost. About $25 covers one classroom for a full session — roughly $2.50 per student.

  2. 02

    Care of the collection

Acquiring, conserving and archivally storing the currency, documents, rare books and civics material that students are trusted to handle.

  3. 03

    Free teacher resources

Lesson plans, guides and videos published on this site for any classroom, anywhere — used long after our visit ends.

  4. 04

    Reaching the next school

Transport, materials and the staff time it takes to add another district to our route across northern New Jersey.
